🀝 Team Play

CBA is a 4v4 of shared razes and shared attention β€” here is the whole team playbook on one page.

Ask the Expert

The fastest way to get an answer for YOUR game: ask the AI expert β€” e.g. "who takes the first raze in Vikings + Britons + Huns + Teutons?"

🎭 The four archetypes

The four CBA team archetypes: diver, kiter, tank, wall specialist
Dive, kite, tank, support β€” a balanced CBA team covers all four.
Role Job Typical civs
Diver / Razer Burn gates early, feed vills to the team, dive Castles late Huns, Malians, Franks, Celts, Burmese, Ethiopians
Kiter / Killer The bulk of the killing; first raze priority (1–2 razes to vill) Britons, Mayans, Chinese, Koreans, Vietnamese, Turks
Tank Front line so archers shoot from behind Persians, Teutons, Byzantines, Wei, Bengalis
Support / Walls First to vill β†’ walls backwall, then front, then ships a vill to a teammate Britons, Mayans (fastest to vill status)

Comps to avoid: all melee (can't kill from defense), no razer (no vills), or two 4–5-raze civs together (Huns + Persians = too slow to vill).

πŸ—οΈ Raze allocation priority

Raze allocation flow between teammates
Who takes the first raze.
  1. Vikings β€” start in Castle Age, need Xbows + Rams immediately.
  2. 1-raze archer civs (Britons, Mayans, Vietnamese, Malay, Italians…) β€” instant, safe conversion.
  3. Weak-UU civs that need real units (Malay, Magyars).
  4. Whoever is being hard-focused by the enemy stack.
  5. Razer civs last (Huns, Franks, Malians) β€” they raze for themselves.

Don't over-raze: extra razes belong to teammates unless someone is pinned and can't raze at all. The killing blow decides who gets the vill β€” coordinate it.

🧱 Wall-and-vill sequence

  1. Backwall first β€” the rear gate is the enemy's standard first target.
  2. Front gates next.
  3. Ship a spare villager to a teammate who hasn't razed (escort it β€” never send a lone vill across an open lane).
  4. In-base build: 2–4 Stables + 1 Archery Range in Castle Age; add a Siege Workshop in Imperial.

πŸ“£ Comms calls

Before the game (first 20 seconds):

  • Announce civ + razes-per-vill ("Britons here, 1 raze").
  • Agree the raze order and assign roles (dive / kite / tank / siege).
  • Name the enemy priority target (Chakram, Urumi, Persian eles, Karambit).

During the game:

  • "Dive incoming [base]" β€” everyone must know when Huns/Franks/Celts commit.
  • "I take this raze" / "leave next for me" β€” no silent raze stealing.
  • "Far side losing" β€” the call most teams never make (see below).
  • Push signal: once both archer civs hit Imperial β†’ HHA + Rams + Halb/Camel splash, together.

πŸ‘€ The two-2v2s rule

Map split into two lanes: near lane winning while the far lane collapses unseen, with a rotate arrow
The awareness trap β€” you win your lane while the far lane dies 6v1. Rotate or call help early.

Every CBA map effectively splits into two side-battles. Winning your side while the far side collapses turns a 4v4 into a 3v4 in seconds β€” the most common losing pattern in team CBA. After minute 3, spend 30–40% of your attention on the far battle and rotate or call help early.

And the biggest multiplier of all: play with the same partners regularly. Shared conventions beat raw mechanics in CBA.
